For some of us, when we're younger, we want to be so independent that we fly away from our families as soon as we can. You'd rather hang out with your friends than your mom. You'd rather meet strangers at a bar than go to another family get together. But when we get older, start having families of our own, and see all our friends make that evolution from me to us, you see the power, the strength and the love of family. So this year, don't forget to call your folks, your kids, or whoever you happen to call family, and tell them you love them. So much.

Images of NYC Summer 2011
Art, nature, commerce, family and food. Just back from an action packed week in NYC.

Poking around the book deals at the irresistable Strand |
NY International gift show...exhausted and shopped out, I had my own tacky booth contest. The winner... |
I stay in Brooklyn with Ryan and James who have a special place. Veggies from their generous garden |

Brooklyn Museum's fantastic show! Every trip from India I come home with a little collection, not museum quality, but a wonderfully affordable selection. There are still some miniatures, embellished god & goddess prints and my favorite folk art paintings from Bihar. |
What a nice week.

Father's Day
I honor my father Marvin on this day. I began by looking up inspirational quotes. Instead I realize he was my inspiration. Every time I read a book, listen to an Opera, eat marvelous food, drink a glass of wine, travel the world fearlessly, I honor my father. He was a principled man (to a fault), a grandfather, loving husband, father and brother. He was a West Point graduate, an executive and mentor and last but not least an amazing golfer. He lived a full life. He was loving and tough and I miss him. He showed me the world and would have honored my new venture.
